Customer Experiences
UtiliTech has recently become aware of a sales tactic being used by some electric suppliers marketing in Pennsylvania and wanted to alert its valued clients.
As you may know, electric rate caps are expiring in Pennsylvania (PPL on 12/31/09 and MetED/PENNELEC/PECO on 12/31/2010). There are many alternate electric suppliers competing for the generation component of your electric bill. The established process is for suppliers to review your electric usage history and provide a proposal and contract directly to you or through a consultant like UtiliTech. When you select the supplier of choice you then sign a contract for a specific price and number of months.
The new sales tactic we have recently learned of is to simply get the customer (you) to make a verbal agreement over the telephone or via response to an unsolicited email. The telephone calls are recorded and then used to prove the commitment. These companies do not ask if you already have a contract, are engaged with a consultant, or even if the person to whom they are speaking is authorized to make such a commitment. To our knowledge these firms are not committing to a specific price or length of term. They simply ask if the customer is interested in saving X% over the impending uncapped rates.
If you have not already signed a contract with an electric supplier, UtiliTech can help your organization effectively navigate through this time of change and uncertainty by soliciting proposals from multiple suppliers and ensuring the best prices and contract terms. There is no charge to our clients for this service.
Please pass this warning along to all appropriate members of your staff and please call us with any questions!
